FAQ / CAR WINDOW TINT

  • How Long Does Tinting Take?

The time it takes to tint will vary depending on the vehicle you have. Tinting a complete car can take between 2 and 4 hours. If you have a full-size truck, it can take between 1 hour and 1 hour 30 minutes. If you are only tinting the front doors, it will be much faster taking only 30 to 45 minutes. If you have any aftermarket film on the windows, this will need to be removed and generally adds 30 minutes to half a day to the time needed.

  • Do You Have To Wait Before Rolling The Windows Down?

It is recommended that your windows remain closed for at least 24 hours after they have been tinted. This gives the tinting film enough time to cure and adhere to the glass. Moving the window before this time can cause problems with the film.

  • Can The Film Be Matched To Vehicle Factory Window Tint?

In many cases, this is possible. However, it does depend on the age of the film and if a color-stable film was used. The technician will be able to provide further information regarding this.

  • Will The Tint Affect Or Be Affected By The Rear Defroster?

When turning the defroster on, the film will not be affected. Additionally, the defroster will not suffer from the film.

  • Can The Tint Be Added At Your Home?

Reputable companies will only install window films in their facilities which are clean and air-conditioned. This allows them complete control over the environment and know how the film will react. Taking your car to the facility will provide you with the best job.

  • What Are The Legal Tint Limits?

    SOURCE: https://www.tinting-laws.com/south-carolina/

Legal limits are specified in the percentage of visible light that enters the car through the windows known as VLT or Visible Light Transmission. In South Carolina, the percentage is very specific, but differs for SUVs, cars, and vans.

For a sedan, on non-reflective tint is allows above the AS-1 line for the windshield. The front side windows have to allow more than 27% of light in which is the same for the rear side windows. The rear window also has to allow more than 27% of light into the vehicle.

For SUVs and vans, a non-reflective tint above the AS-1 line on the windshield is allowed. The front side windows have to allow 27% of light in, but the rear side windows have no restriction several inches from the top of the window. The rear window will allow any darkness to be used.

  • Can Vehicle Factory Tinted Windows Be Darkened?

It is possible to do this as the window film will adhere to the glass. Factory tints will change the color of the glass itself.

Aftermarket films provide better solar benefits that the factory tint. Factory tints only partially reject UV rays and a small amount of heat. The films will reject 99% of UV rays and between 30% and 60% of heat. This will depend on the level of film used. These benefits are important, but darkening factory tints also gives you more privacy.

  • Can Window Film Be Applied To Other Surfaces?

No, this film can only be applied to glass. The glass should also have a smooth finish for the best results. Plexiglas, plastic and Lexan have too much oil in them for the film to adhere for long periods.
